If you play Free Fire MAX and your entire squad keeps getting wiped out right after landing then you loose the battle early, the problem may not be your aim. It could be your landing strategy. That’s why it is important to understand every map in the game. After the OB54 Update, several changes were made to the maps, and every player should know about them.
This blog post covers almost every important detail about Free Fire maps. It explains how many maps are currently available in the game, when each map was launched, the theme it is based on, its dimensions, the changes made over time, and the most popular landing spots at present. It also includes other important information about each map that can be useful for both new and experienced players.
How Many Maps Are Currently Active in Free Fire After OB54?
After the OB54 update in June 2026, only 5 maps remain active in Free Fire. Bermuda Remastered (Bermuda 2.0) and Alpine were permanently removed. Factory on the original Bermuda was also replaced by the 9th Anniversary Party Venue.
Here is the complete list of currently active maps:
| # | Map Name | Status |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Bermuda | Active |
| 2 | Purgatory | Active |
| 3 | Kalahari | Active |
| 4 | NexTerra | Active |
| 5 | Solara | Active |
| – | Bermuda 2.0 (Remastered) | Removed in OB54 |
| – | Alpine | Removed in OB54 |
These five maps are designed for different playstyles. Bermuda is a classic all-rounder map. Purgatory is a better choice for players who prefer long-range fights. Kalahari requires an aggressive playstyle. NexTerra offers futuristic vertical gameplay with features like portals and Zero Gravity.
Meanwhile, Solara delivers fast-paced and exciting battles with its slide rails, dynamic weather, and coastal areas. Garena officially confirmed all of these changes in the OB54 Patch Notes.
1. Bermuda Map
Bermuda is the original Free Fire map. It launched in 2017 when the game first released and measures approximately 1.92×1.92 kilometers with 9 named locations. It is available in both BR and CS modes. Matches last roughly 15 to 17 minutes with 50 players.

Bermuda is where most Indian players learned the game. The layout is balanced: cities in the center, open fields on the edges, and enough cover for all playstyles. Garena has changed this map more than any other. Locations have shifted, graphics have improved, and new features were added over time. In the OB53 update, Garena optimized the Bermuda minimap for clearer visuals. In OB54, Factory was replaced by the Anniversary Party Venue.
Bermuda Main Features
Bermuda doesn’t have any exclusive features as such, but the common features of Free Fire are present here as well.
- Launch Pads
- Zipline
- FF Tokens
- Vending Machine
- Revival Point
- Treasure Chest
- Arsenal Box
These features make looting, mobility, and revival much easier.
Bermuda’s Most Famous Landing Spots
- Peak
- Clock Tower
- Factory
Cape Town, Katulistiwa, and Rim Nam Village are safer with decent loot. BlueStacks’ Bermuda guide ranks Peak and Pochinok as the most contested drops in ranked.
2. Purgatory Map
Purgatory is Free Fire’s second map, launched in May 2018. This map dimension is approximately 1.87 × 1.87 kilometers. It is based on a rural theme and features 7 major Points of Interest (POIs). The map is available in both Battle Royale (BR) and Clash Squad (CS) modes.

When Purgatory was first released, it was much larger in size. One match on Bermuda usually lasted around 15–17 minutes, while matches on Purgatory could last up to 25 minutes. Later, Garena reduced the size of the map to make the gameplay faster and more balanced.
This map is made up of three different islands. In its early days, its graphics were considered much better than Bermuda, which helped it become one of the most popular maps among players in a short time.
Famous Landing Spots
- Brasilia
- Central
- Ski Lodge
Forge has the best loot but sits in a valley, making it easy to third-party from hills. Moathouse and Plantation are safer edge locations. GameSee’s ranked analysis ranks Forge and Central as top picks for loot and rotation flexibility.
3. Kalahari Map
Kalahari launched on February 28, 2020, during OB20. It measures approximately 1.44×1.44 kilometers with 8 locations in a red-soil desert wasteland. It is available in both BR and CS. In OB54, Kalahari lost all ziplines in CS mode.

Kalahari is completely different from the other maps. While Bermuda and Purgatory are based on a lush green environment, Kalahari features a desert theme with red soil.
When it was first released, many players did not like the map. One of the biggest reasons was its tall mountains and large rocks. New players often fell from these areas and got eliminated. The map also featured the Hook Gun, which allowed players to quickly reach high ground and gain an advantage during fights. However, as players became more familiar with the map, Kalahari gradually became one of the most popular maps in Free Fire.
Kalahari Theme
- Desert Theme
- Old Civilization Look
- Dinosaur Skeleton
- Broken Ships
- Ancient Structures
Famous Landing Spots
- Refinery
- Command Post
- The Sub
Refinery, Command Post, and The Sub are the top picks. Command Post is central with dense loot. Refinery offers safer edge loot with good rotation options.
4. NexTerra Map
NexTerra launched in 2023 during OB35. It measures approximately 1.28×1.28 kilometers and has 13 locations, the most of any map. This entire map is based on a futuristic theme set in the year 2050. If you love sci-fi and high-tech environments, then this map is for you.

NexTerra has two exclusive features. The Gravity Lab creates zero gravity, which boosts your jump height and makes movement feel like you are on the moon. The Deca Square Teleport system lets you instantly travel from one location to another.
NexTerra’s most exclusive locations
- Farmtopia

Solara is inspired by a resort city built near a harbor. It has canyons, waterfalls, and Jacaranda trees that give it a unique tropical look. The Slide Rail system lets players travel quickly between elevated points, making looting and rotations much faster. The map also has dynamic weather that shifts during matches, which changes visibility and audio cues.
