BGMI Lite has officially been renamed BGMI Air, but Krafton has still not revealed the exact launch date. On October 15, 2026, the company shared the new name through its official Instagram handle, along with a message promising to reveal the launch date once the account reaches 500,000 followers.
The announcement has given Indian BGMI players another milestone to watch, particularly those using low-end devices who are waiting for a lighter version of Battlegrounds Mobile India. However, with the end of 2026 approaching, questions remain about the exact launch timeline and whether players will get access to a beta version before the official release.
BGMI Lite Name Changed to BGMI Air
BGMI Lite was expected to offer a more accessible gaming experience for players whose devices struggle to run the standard version of Battlegrounds Mobile India smoothly. The idea was to make the game available to a wider audience, particularly players using budget smartphones with limited hardware capabilities.
During EWC 2026, a Krafton official announced that the lighter version was expected to launch by the end of 2026. Since then, players have been waiting for further updates about its release.
On October 15, Krafton introduced a new identity for the project by changing the name from BGMI Lite to BGMI Air on its official Instagram account. The accompanying announcement used the tagline, “BGMI LITE is now BGMI Air. ”
The rebranding suggests that Krafton is preparing to build anticipation for the upcoming game ahead of its expected launch. However, the name change alone does not confirm an exact release date.
Will BGMI Air Launch Before the End of 2026?
Krafton’s earlier announcement at EWC 2026 indicated that BGMI Air was expected to arrive by the end of 2026. With October 15 already reached, November and December remain before the year concludes.
On 15 October 2026, Along with announcing the new name, the official BGMI Instagram account shared a target for revealing the launch date. According to the announcement, the company will reveal the date when the account reaches 500K followers.
As of October 15, 2026, the account had approximately 281K followers, leaving a considerable gap before reaching the target.
Players will now have to wait for the account to reach the promised milestone before receiving the launch date announcement. The approach also gives the community a specific target to follow while anticipation builds around BGMI Air.
PUBG Mobile Lite Also Received a New Name
Interestingly, Indian version BGMI Air is not the only lightweight mobile battle royale project to receive a new name. Global version PUBG Mobile Lite was also rebranded as PUBG Mobile Flash, with the change shared through the official PUBG Mobile Instagram account on September 20, 2026.
Will BGMI Air Get a Beta Version Before Launch?
Another question concerns whether Krafton will release a beta version of BGMI Air before making the game available to everyone. According to the available information in this update, a beta version of PUBG Mobile Flash are avaloable on his official website but BGMI Air, as no beta release details have been provided in the announcement described here.
This has raised the possibility that Krafton could release BGMI Air directly as an application rather than conducting a publicly available beta test for Indian players. However, this remains speculation, not a confirmed release plan.
Until Krafton announces its testing arrangements, players cannot know whether a beta version will be available before the official launch.
For now, BGMI Air is the new name, 500K Instagram followers is the promised launch-date reveal milestone, and the official release date remains unconfirmed.
