Ahead of Australia’s training session at the Kent Country Cricket Ground, Daniel Vettori, the Australian assistant coach, shared insights with the local media. Vettori revealed that the coaching group has engaged in extensive discussions about the composition of India’s XI for the highly anticipated World Test Championship Final in south London. The speculation surrounding India’s lineup adds to the intrigue surrounding the upcoming clash.
“We have been debating that,” Vettori admitted.
“I think Jadeja will play because of the batting he brings to the table and how successful he has been at that No.6 position.
“Then the question will be around that fourth seamer and the all-rounder in Thakur and Ashwin, but they are (both) pretty good choices.”
Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s veteran off-spinner, boasts a decent record in England, securing 18 wickets at an average of 28.11 from seven matches. However, it is surprising to note that the 36-year-old has only played a solitary Test at The Oval. That lone appearance occurred in 2014 against England, where Ashwin impressed with figures of 3/72. Since then, he has further enhanced his credentials and currently holds the distinction of being India’s second-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket, with an impressive tally of 474 wickets.
